I'm now a FreeBSD committer
Yippee!
Today’s post is a short one because 1) it’s an announcement, and there’s nothing really new, and 2) final exams are coming up next week, so I don’t have time to write a lengthy blog post.
On July 24th, I received an email from srcmgr@ informing me that I had been granted a src commit bit. After that, the FreeBSD accounts team created a freefall.FreeBSD.org account and a FreeBSD email address (mchoo@) for me. Then, I created patches for src and doc to complete the steps for new committers. They landed in the FreeBSD repositories yesterday (src, doc).
As I had an issue with my current PGP key, I created a new one and updated my about page to reflect it. This is my third PGP key. My first one was RSA 4096, and I created a new one a year ago because of the Ed25519 hype. It was stored on a YubiKey, but I forgot to back up the original master key. The key was moved to the YubiKey permanently, where keys are writable but not readable for security. After realizing this recently, I created a new Ed25519 PGP key.
This time, I not only backed up the original master key, but also created separate subkeys for authentication, encryption, and signing. I issued revocation certificates for the RSA 4096 key and the first Ed25519 key so that I can announce that they are no longer in use and prevent others from tampering with them. I hope this is the last time in my life that I have to create a new PGP key and revoke the old one.
